The prophesy of Danteâs exile: In the story, Cacciaguidaâs words, foretelling to Dante the blow of exile that is to fall on him, are the culmination, and clarification, of all the dark and sinister hints he has heard from other souls in the course of his journey. In the allegory, the foretelling of Danteâs future is an instance of contingency which, though foreseeable by the souls in the mind of God, is not a predetermined fate.
